─── THE SITUATION
A long-established platform preparing to exit. The business was not yet built for it.
A national sports platform with more than two decades of operation had reached the point where its owner was ready to consider exit. The business had genuine value, a strong brand and an established market presence. But it had been built and run as a founder-led operation, and founder-led businesses do not automatically translate into attractive acquisition targets.
The commercial architecture needed restructuring. The business needed to tell a cleaner financial story. The operational dependencies on the founder needed to be reduced. And the transaction itself, when it came, needed to be navigated with the commercial discipline that protects value rather than erodes it.
“A business that only works with the founder in it is worth considerably less to a buyer than one that works without them.”

─── WHAT WE DID
Structured the business for transaction and navigated the complexity of a founder-led sale.
The Private Advisory engagement focused on exit architecture across two phases: preparing the business and navigating the transaction.
In the preparation phase, we worked on the commercial architecture of the business to make it legible and attractive to a buyer. Financial reporting was strengthened. Operational dependencies on the founder were identified and reduced. The business was structured to demonstrate that it could operate independently of its owner.
The transaction phase involved working directly with the owner on the commercial complexity of a founder-led sale, including deal structuring, negotiation positioning and the decisions that determine whether value is protected or given away. Having advised on and completed more than 60 transactions, the Shrine approach brought direct transactional experience rather than theoretical guidance.
─── WHAT WE CHANGED
A business structured for transaction, with a protected commercial position and a founder who navigated exit with clarity.
The engagement produced a business ready for transaction and an owner equipped with the commercial discipline to navigate it properly.
